We will look at the discovery of Pompeii and Herculaneum in the 18th century, and assess what the subsequent excavations have told us about life and work in these ancient towns. We will pay particular attention to the wonderful artistic treasures preserved so perfectly by the volcanic ash.

A 5-hour “taster” course, delivered via 2 x 2½-hour sessions on consecutive Saturdays (17 April and 24 April).
