Well you didn’t really think I’d be able to resist this, did you…?!

Because yes… Like many of you, I have been transfixed by this month’s audacious Louvre robbery - the aftermath of which continues even as we go to press.

For me, as for probably just about the rest of the planet, the pièce de résistance was that the getaway was made courtesy of a slow-motion furniture lift ride then scooters. And kudos to the manufacturer of said lift, for deciding to give a new real-life definition of the term ‘when life gives you lemons, make lemonade’ with their social media posts (“When you’re in a hurry again” indeed!).

OK. Look… I know it’s not funny. I really do. And of course like all good historians, we deplore even the possibility that such treasures might be lost to posterity.

And yet….

A furniture lift!! If there aren’t already a dozen heist scripts being hastily written and pitched I’ll eat my chapeau. For me, the only question is whether the cinematic treatment should be a glossy George Clooney-esque vehicle or a gritty Engrenages-adjacent affair, replete with emotionally-damaged, chain-smoking, sexily-ruffled flics. Needless to say, Robert’s preferred options are a Yorkshire-inflected Ealing comedy version or Inspector Clouseau.

But enough of that for now. You know what’s really hot (as in ‘interesting’ rather than ‘stolen’)?* That’s right - it’s our first programme of courses for 2026!!

*[I know…. And I’m not even sorry]

So without further ado, I call upon Monsieur Rinky-Dink himself to give us a suitable alternative to our usual fanfare and drum-rolling dog.

Mesdames et Messieurs... I present unto you …

…our January 2026 courses!!

The ‘spine’ of our online term consists of two ten-week courses and one seven-weeker, namely...

And finally, we’re running an in-venue iteration of this at Pickering:

Pagan Rome (Pickering)

So voilà! As always, we’ve done our best to offer something to cover everyone’s taste. We hope we’ve succeeded!

NB Before you book, there are some national developments with regard to watching videos which you may want to know. For details, please see here.

We continue to record all online sessions - so if you want them, they’ll be there!
